What Field Are You On?

Chapter 13:
The Man in the Panda Tie

Chapter 14:
Environmental Injustice

Chapter 15:
Poisoned By Policy

Important Events and Progress Throughout These 4 Chapters:
- Dr. Mona, Elin, and a fellow colleague meet up with Marc Edwards to collaborate.
- Dr. Mona and her fellow researcher, Jenny, got the preliminary results of a study on the kids’ blood lead levels at the main clinic in Flint, Hurley (where Dr. Mona works). It shows a definite elevation in kids’ lead levels, but they need a bigger sample in order to not blow their chance exposing the issue and MDEQ’s complacency without having their access to important data being taken away.
- Dr. Mona and Jenny got an Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval to do a larger study of kids’ blood lead levels.
- Dr. Mona starts mobilizing other doctors from the Children’s Healthcare Access Program (CHAP) group and the Michigan chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (MIAAP) to help with these efforts.
- Dr. Mona’s brother, Mark, a lawyer, helps educate her about the reality of being ‘whistleblower’ to this crisis, explaining what precautions she should take and what she needs to be prepared to face.
